Top Ten Moments from World Workplace 2025
IFMA’s World Workplace 2025 in Minneapolis was one for the books! From behind-the-scenes facility tours to unforgettable celebrations, this year’s conference brought together the global facility management community to learn, connect and celebrate 30 years of World Workplace. Here’s a look back at the top ten moments that made this year’s event truly memorable.
1. Behind-the-Scenes Facility Tours — Including a VIP Visit to Mall of America
Pre-conference kicked off with a series of exclusive facility tours to some of Minneapolis’ most impressive sites, including Trane Commercial HVAC Controls, RBC Gateway and the Minneapolis Convention Center.
But the showstopper? A field trip to the Mall of America, sponsored by Vicinia. Attendees got an insider’s look at operations from the largest mall in the Western Hemisphere, from HVAC systems and ride technologies to recycling programs, plant care and security infrastructure. After a private presentation and lunch, guests took a guided tour through hidden corridors and control rooms, hearing behind-the-scenes stories about what it takes to manage one of the most complex facilities in the country.
2. House of Delegates and Young Professionals Reception
World Workplace started strong with two key gatherings. The House of Delegates meeting invited leaders to be “in the room where global FM decisions are made,” shaping the direction of the industry. Meanwhile, the Young Professionals Reception gave the next generation of facility leaders a chance to connect, share ideas and build relationships that will carry the profession forward.
3. First-Timers Happy Hour
There’s nothing quite like your first World Workplace, and this event made sure newcomers felt right at home. Hosted by MilliCare, the First-Timers Happy Hour gave new attendees the chance to mingle with seasoned IFMA Fellows, swap stories and set the tone for an incredible week ahead.
4. Explore FM
Explore FM, sponsored by ABM, helped attendees dive right in. This interactive kickoff event guided participants through the many facets of facility management, offering insights from IFMA volunteer leaders and helping everyone find sessions and topics that matched their goals. The room buzzed with energy as attendees networked, connected and discovered new ways to grow in their FM careers.
5. Opening Keynote with Daymond John
World Workplace officially opened with a packed house for Daymond John, CEO and Founder of FUBU and star of Shark Tank. His keynote, Principles of Success: A Roadmap for Resilient Leadership, inspired attendees with his personal journey and the “S.H.A.R.K. Points” that have guided his success. Sponsored by Davies Office, this session reminded everyone that resilience and mindset are key to thriving both in business and in life.
6. The Big Kickoff Welcome Reception at U.S. Bank Stadium
To celebrate 30 years of World Workplace, attendees took over U.S. Bank Stadium — home of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings — for an epic kickoff celebration. The turf came alive with food, music, games and even field goal competitions. The throwback theme encouraged everyone to sport their favorite vintage tees, creating a fun, laid-back vibe. From laughter on the field to the incredible live band, it was the perfect way to start the week.
7. The Expo: Innovation, Networking and Community
Following Daymond John’s keynote, the Vikings marching band led attendees straight into The Expo — a high-energy start to a jam-packed showcase of over 350 exhibitors.
Highlights included:
- Innovation Arena sessions showcasing new ideas and products.
- A Community Service Project supporting Pillsbury United Communities (with hundreds of backpacks assembled!).
- Complimentary professional headshots courtesy of Aerotek.
- A Sustainability Park sponsored by Sunbelt Rentals.
The Expo floor buzzed with conversation, networking, and excitement over the latest innovations shaping FM’s future.
8. IFMA Connected FM Podcasts Live at IFMA Central
Podcast fans were in for a treat! The IFMA Connected FM Podcast hosted 15 live sessions throughout the week, featuring industry experts on emerging trends and regional insights. Sponsored by Tarkett, these recordings captured fresh conversations that will continue to roll out throughout the year — perfect for anyone wanting to relive the insights from Minneapolis.
9. Conference Education Program
With more than 100 education sessions, sponsored by Dexterra, this year’s conference education program offered something for everyone. This year’s most attended World Workplace sessions revealed clear trends shaping the future of facility management. Attendees were eager to explore how AI and emerging technologies are transforming operations—from predictive maintenance and data analytics to smarter, more connected buildings. Sessions on future-ready and agile FM strategies drew strong engagement, reflecting the industry’s focus on adaptability and innovation. Additionally, leadership development and professional growth proved central, with many seeking tools to enhance communication, emotional intelligence, and team leadership. Sustainability and lifecycle-focused facility management also resonated, highlighting the profession’s commitment to long-term value and efficiency.
Attendees left with fresh insights, practical tools and a renewed passion for the FM profession.
